ParticipantHi
please can someone help with instructions on wiring a free-play switch into a Packard Pla-Mor ?
The instructions include a photo showing the ability to do this, but the photos not very clear and its not mentioned in the instruction text.
Has anyone wired a switch to operate off the coin reject button ?
many thanks

KeymasterI’ve used the original coin switch, and moved it next to the coin reject button.

ParticipantMay help to post a picture of which coin switch you have. There are a few different switches for the Pla-Mor for different models, from brass leaf contacts to micros. But a simple momentary switch wired to each terminal of the current switch should do it. Or jump those terminals.

ParticipantThanks guys
here’s a photo of my unit.
I’ve been told that the coin switch is on the right hand side by the fuse, but the coin doesn’t seem to go anywhere near this but seems to drop pretty centrally.
if this is the switch, how would I move this as its seems pretty embedded and not easy to access ?
Thanks again

ParticipantOK – so you have one of the older boxes with a leaf switch stack rather than the micro switch. Personally I like to keep the coin system in place but if you want to avoid coins you could wire a momentary switch to the two tabs on the switch stack then whenever you push the button it provides a credit. Or you could just bend the two switch leaves so that they are always in contact either way would likely require some disassembly. I’ve attached a couple pics to show it better. By chance I have a similar unit disassembled.

ParticipantHey Simong, disregard the option of bending the leaves so they stay in contact. I’ve seen this done on pinball machines to get free play but had forgotten to consider that pinballs have a built in momentary switches in the next game/start play buttons. I like Klaatu’s suggestion to use the coin return button to trigger the credit switch but I’m guessing that requires significant disassembly.

ParticipantUnrelated question, but does anyone know where the serial number is located on these boxes and if it’s possible to date the year of manufacture ?
There’s a hard to red number stamped on the top of the box, but I was expecting there to be a plate somewhere confirming model etc
thanks again 😊

ParticipantThe serial number should be on the data plate inside the box on the upper left hand of the back plate. My SC-2 is #162712. Not so easy to date the year of manufacture although this site claims 1962-65 for the SC-1 then states a production run of around 13ok for “SC series”

ParticipantWhoops, wrong forum topic. For the Play-mor the serial # was noted on a card pasted on the outside back of the backplate. Given that you are not likely to find them intact any more. Here is a picture of one of mine. The link to history is: looks like 40-49 at about 120k.

ParticipantUnfortunately, that label appears to be missing from my unit.
there is what looks like a date stamped into the top of the unit next to the coin slot, it’s a 6 digit number ending ‘41’, so could that be the date ?

ParticipantAhh, I missed that on mine, that number is the serial #, on mine it matches what is on the card. Not sure how you would be able to figure out the date on manufacture from it though.
